I love my shoes

Looks like it will be a multi-post day, folks. Lots of stuff on my mind that just wants to make its way to the page. But you’re lucky…I’m busy at work, too, so you won’t be overwhelmed.
Hi. My name is Lynne and I’m a gear-head.
Well, I guess I’m only a gear-head wannabe. I’m much too […]

Any emotional eaters out there?

Found a great blurb on Prevention.com today. The following quote is from Geneen Roth, and if you’re an emotional eater, follow the Prevention link to read more and find out more about Geneen.
Why Food Can’t Protect You
When you’re tempted to shield yourself by overeating, remind yourself:

The pain will still be there after the food […]

Begin Again

Another cycle has wound its way down and it’s time to start the process over anew. Last week was a “recovery and rebuild week.” And this weekend I worked on my training plan for the next 25 weeks. My new multi-purpose schedule concentrates on endurance and will see me through a variety of events, including:

Either […]

More lessons learned

Two more lessons learned from my first adventure racing experience.

L’Oreal Jet Set nail polish color “Flight — 830″ is the perfect color for covering up black running toenails. It’s kind-of, sort-of the same color but with wonderful silvery, pearlescent undertones.
Training for an AR is fabulous. Actually participating in one may inspire a severe case of […]

Lynne and Tina’s Excellent Adventure Race

It’s a long one, folks. Sorry…I didn’t have time to make it shorter. Race reports are a challenge for me. So I simply dumped onto the page.
The dramatic introduction
This weekend, I participated in an event for which I had been preparing for more than a year: building endurance, gathering skills, toughening my mind. This weekend, […]

In the Groove

I’m back!
The short story:
I had a FABULOUS race.
I learned soooooo much!
I had my first-ever disqualification, too.
But I’m not bothered by it. Because I discovered that I can work my body HARD for 15 hours and still be alive — and smiling — at the end.
More to come!

Thanks, Dad!

As you read this, I will be blissfully (probably painfully) snoozing after my first-ever adventure race. This post is dedicated to my Dad, Ron Richards. Happy Father’s Day, Dad. Thanks for all the great advice.
In honor of Father’s Day, I’d like to remind each of us the important lessons our fathers taught us when we […]

Today’s motivation

The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.
- Chinese Proverb
I feel like I’m going through the trials right now, and the race isn’t even until Saturday! Let’s just say this race is not at a time that’s good for me. So much is going on in my life. I’m trying hard […]

From the ING NYC Marathon Entrant Database

Clarification: For those of you who don’t know, because so many thousands of people apply to run it, entry into NYCM is by lottery (unless you have a qualifying time). They’ve had the entrant database posted for months now with the designation “Lottery” in the column that now says YES or NO.
ENTRY ACCEPTED? LAST NAME […]

Remove fear

Last night’s workout ended up being a spinning class instead of my planned easy jog. Maria runs a great class and puts us through the paces. We were doing an endurance ride, where she has us keep our heart rates very steady at a specific spot. She allowed us to pick that spot yesterday, so […]
